Recap of our 3rd annual:

For the Lakefield Fairy and Dragon Festival on Saturday, the volunteers, entertainers and vendors were arriving at Cenotaph Park by 7 am, all happy that we had yet another glorious day for The Fairy and Dragon Festival! The Blades of Glory, Robin Hawkins, Kawartha Music Co. and some amazing Fairy Princesses were getting set to entertain all day …

The Kawartha Chamber was setting up the King of Fairy Collecting Game; Sandra O’Brien was setting up the Dragon Bubbles, Play Cafe Peterborough, COMPASS Early Learning & The Rolling Art Studio all set up play areas for children.

The Lakefield Pantry set up their famous fairy and dragon cookie making area and some delectable delights from owner Jennie MacKenzie’s pantry, Gill Exton from Stuff’d was the Queen of the Unicorns and ran around all day in a blow up Unicorn costume AND set up a miniature adorable Stuff Store, Griffin’s Green House and Greenhouse on the River set up a wee fairy garden, and Vikki from Greenhouse on the River set up her store of fairy goodies.

Celtic Connection had free face painting and several other local businesses including Razberry The Clown of Peterborough, Henna Rocks Tattoos of Lakefield, Joanne’s Faceprinting from Bancroft and KC Costumes of Peterborough all featured incredible faceprinting artists at varying prices and then there were a lot of beautiful vendors who featured their art for sale, many of them local and, for the first time, sharing their creativity.

Sparky the Dragon was in action all day and Sparky the Firedog joined us for the afternoon!
The amazing Princess Fairy Parties led by Fairy Queen Barb Bird were Fairy Princess Nicole Van Stone, Dana, Katie & Maria. They danced with knights and festival goers and led Fairy Walks throughout the day, circling the park with wee fairies all following.

It was a sunny, gorgeous day with six knights from Blades of Glory and owners Montse and Sir Harry Heydon entertaining with three shows: the knights fight with real swords and then they invited the wee children in for challenges, a fan favorite; and they also danced with the fairy princesses and other festival revelers! Thanks to many sponsors, there were hundreds of great costume prizes for all ages!

The Kawartha Music Co. came in fairy wings and sang for everyone. Festival goers were also delighted to walk through the magical village of Lakefield on a scavenger hunt seeking out 7 of the 20 fairy and dragon doors on the front of businesses (a year round festival attraction) to see what new doors were popping up featuring the elementals of Lakefield! It was a huge meeting of volunteers and community minded people who all thoroughly enjoyed the family fun. Special thanks to Jeanne Thompson, Barb Bird, Monica Johns, Chantelle Bruns, Dianne Dunford, Linda Moors, Nicole Van Stone, and photographer supreme James McShane. Thank you for supporting your local Celtic girls, the volunteers and the sponsors who helped to make this amazing day possible!
